2019 Reading Summary

Wow! This year was a great time for reading. I really found my groove with the fantasy genre completing 25 new books with a total of 11,649 pages. It was also a year of book series like the Stormlight Archive, Harry Potter, Cradle, House of Blades and Skyward.

It's hard to believe I had not read any of the Harry Potter books before this year. I had a general awareness of the universe and had watched a couple of the movies before I decided to start reading the books. The desire to start them came after going to Universal Studios with the family. I wanted to know more about Harry Potter and that got me started reading the series.

After I finished reading Harry Potter, a coworker recommended the Cradle series. This was an exciting series and the books are really easy quick reads. I highly recommend the Cradle series. I picked up the Traveler's Gate books when Will Wight, the author of the Cradle series, ran all his books for free on Kindle for July 4th. The books were good but I did not get as into them as I did the Cradle series for some reason.

Another coworker recommended the Stormlight Archive series to me and all I can say is wow! Brandon Sanderson has built an intense expansive universe called the Cosmere and this series is the major epic in the universe. Several of his other books tie into this universe and I am on a mission to read them all. On top of that book 4 of Stormlight Archive is scheduled to be released in November 2020 so I am looking forward to that.

I picked up the Skyward series on my own. It is another series by Brandon Sanderson but this one does not take place in the Cosmere universe. It is more Science Fiction than Epic Fantasy, but a fantastic set of books. I read both books over the course of two weekends. Book 2 of the series just came out in November 2019.
